Find the required final score
Enter the current weighted grade, target course grade, and final exam weight. The calculator estimates the final score needed if the current grade represents the remaining course work and the weights are percentages of the final course grade.
Formula
Required final score equals target grade minus current grade multiplied by one minus final exam weight, divided by final exam weight. Keep every grade in percentage points and every weight in percentage units.
Worked example
If the current weighted grade is 82 percent, the target is 90 percent, and the final exam is 30 percent, the required exam score is calculated from the remaining 70 percent and the target. Compare the result with the maximum possible score before making a study plan.
Frequently Asked Questions about Final Grade Calculator
How do I sanity-check the final grade result?
Rerun the calculator with a known example and compare it against the figure you expect; then swap back to your own numbers.
Which final grade inputs change the outcome most?
Adjust one field at a time. The figure that shifts the result hardest is the assumption worth double-checking before you rely on it.
Does this use assignment points or weighted grades?
It uses a current weighted grade and final exam weight. Convert your course data first if the grading system is different.
What if the required score is over 100 percent?
The target is not reachable under the entered assumptions without changing another weighted component.
Is this an official course grade?
No. Confirm the result with the course syllabus and instructor rules.
