Frequently Asked Questions about Grade Point Calculator

How do I calculate my GPA from percentage grades?

If your school uses percentages, select “Percentage” from the grading system dropdown. Then enter each assignment score out of its total points (e.g., 85 out of 100). The grade point calculator will convert every percentage to the equivalent 4.0 scale based on a standard conversion table (e.g., 90-92% = A- = 3.7). You can view the full grade scale table at the bottom of the results section.

Can I use this to calculate my GPA for a single semester only?

Absolutely. Just enter the courses from that one semester. Ignore the “Cumulative GPA Trend” chart, or you can clear all fields with the “Reset All” button before starting a new semester. For a single term, the final grade displayed will be your semester GPA.

Does this tool work for weighted or AP classes?

Yes. Weighted classes (like AP or honors) typically give extra grade points, such as an A being worth 5.0 instead of 4.0. To simulate this, simply use the “Credits” weighting mode and assign a higher credit value to the weighted course. For example, give an AP course 1.5 credits while a regular course gets 1.0 credit. The final GPA will reflect the extra weight.

What’s the difference between a grade point calculator and a final grade calculator?

A grade point calculator typically converts letter grades or percentages into a 4.0, 5.0, or other scale to determine your overall GPA across multiple courses. A final grade calculator (which is included in our tool under “Target Grade Calculator”) focuses on one course and tells you what score you need on an upcoming exam to reach a desired final grade. Our tool does both in one place.

Is it really free? There’s no paywall after I calculate three times?

It is completely free. There’s no paywall, no limited free tier, and no requirement to sign up for a newsletter. The only thing we ask is that you share it with a classmate if you find it helpful. The tool is supported by unobtrusive ads, but the calculator itself will always remain free for students everywhere.

Why should I trust an online GPA calculator instead of my school’s system?

You should always consider your school’s official transcript as the final authority. However, an online grade point average calculator is perfect for planning, “what-if” scenarios, and double-checking your own calculations. Schools don’t always provide a real-time GPA tracker. Our tool fills that gap, giving you an accurate estimate that typically matches the official calculation within 0.01 points.
