关于 asphalt calculator 的常见问题

How do I sanity-check the asphalt result?

Rerun the calculator with a known example and compare it against the figure you expect; then swap back to your own numbers.

Which asphalt inputs change the outcome most?

Adjust one field at a time. The figure that shifts the result hardest is the assumption worth double-checking before you rely on it.

How many tons of asphalt do I need for a 100-foot driveway?

It depends entirely on the width and thickness. For a standard 10-foot wide driveway that is 100 feet long, with a 3-inch thickness of standard hot mix asphalt, you’ll need approximately 18.8 tons (including a 5% waste factor). Use the calculator’s comparison tab to adjust the length and width to your exact numbers.

What is the waste factor for asphalt paving, and why does it matter?

The waste factor (usually 5-10%) accounts for asphalt that spills during transport, sticks to the truck bed, gets compacted irregularly, or is trimmed away at the edges. Without it, you’ll almost certainly fall short. Professional estimators never skip the waste factor—it’s the difference between a finished job and a frantic call for an emergency top-up.

Can I calculate asphalt for a circular or triangular area with this tool?

Yes. Switch to the advanced options tab and select “Circle” or “Triangle” from the area shape dropdown. For a circle, you just need the diameter. For a triangle, enter the base length and height. The tool handles all the geometry and density conversions.

Is the cost per ton estimate accurate for my local supplier?

The calculator gives you an estimate based on the price per ton you enter. For the most accurate budget, call two or three local asphalt plants and ask for their current “hot mix asphalt” price per ton delivered. Enter that number. The tool will then show you a reliable project cost, but always add a contingency for local taxes or delivery fees.
