关于 ascvd risk calculator 的常见问题

How do I sanity-check the ascvd risk result?

Rerun the calculator with a known example and compare it against the figure you expect; then swap back to your own numbers.

Which ascvd risk inputs change the outcome most?

Adjust one field at a time. The figure that shifts the result hardest is the assumption worth double-checking before you rely on it.

How accurate is this ASCVD risk calculator compared to what a doctor would use?

The calculator uses the same PREVENT-ASCVD equation recommended by the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association. This is the current clinical standard for primary prevention in adults aged 30 to 79. A doctor would have access to the same underlying formula. The main difference is that a physician also considers risk-enhancing factors like family history or inflammatory conditions that might not be fully captured by numbers alone. So treat the result as a highly reliable screening tool, not a final diagnosis.

Does this tool work for people who already had a heart attack or stroke?

No. The PREVENT equation is designed for primary prevention, meaning people without established cardiovascular disease. If you’ve already had a heart attack, stroke, stent, or bypass surgery, you’re automatically considered very high risk. Using this calculator could underestimate your true risk. For secondary prevention, your cardiologist will use different risk stratification methods.

Can I use the kidney function inputs if I don’t know my eGFR or UACR?

Absolutely. The advanced tab is optional. If you leave the kidney fields blank, the calculator defaults to normal kidney function (eGFR of 100 and UACR below 10 mg/g). You’ll still get a valid 10-year and 30-year risk estimate from the basic inputs. However, if you do have known CKD, entering your actual eGFR and UACR will produce a more accurate result, because kidney disease independently raises cardiovascular risk.

Is there a mobile-friendly version of this heart attack risk predictor?

Yes, the calculator works on any modern smartphone browser. The layout adjusts to smaller screens, and all three tabs remain accessible. You don’t need to download a separate app. Many people save the link to their home screen and use it as a lightweight web app during checkups or health screenings.
